FREEDOM PASS RENEWAL + ACCOUNT HELP

Freedom Pass renewal and account help for families

When a relative says their Freedom Pass needs “renewing”, check what has actually happened. An expiring card, an account sign-in problem and a missing replacement are different issues.

Start with the pass type and the message or letter they received. Then use the matching official route below. Permission to speak for someone may help with a discussion, but it does not itself renew a pass or restore an account.

Before trying another application

01

Identify the pass

Read the wording on the card or latest letter. The official renewal page separates Older Person’s and Disabled Person’s passes. If it is a 60+ Oyster photocard, use our separate TfL guide instead.

02

Read the latest individual message

Note the expiry date and any request for evidence or a response. Do not assume another person’s renewal experience describes this case.

03

Separate the account from the pass

Write down whether the difficulty is signing in, completing a requested check or finding out where a pass is. This helps the service answer the right question.

04

Choose one official route

Use the matching link above and keep the reference from any enquiry. Before starting a fresh application, ask whether that is actually the right action for an existing pass.

Account verification: check the current notice

Checked 29 September 2026: the Freedom Pass homepage asks users signing in for the first time since its September provider change to follow a verification process. Start at the official homepage and use its current account links. A letter of authority does not replace that verification.

Check which renewal dates apply to your pass

Some official renewal pages still describe passes expiring in March 2026 and earlier delivery dates. Treat those as instructions for that renewal cycle, not a promise about your current case. If the dates do not match your pass or latest letter, ask the official service or relevant borough to clarify.

The change-details page also shows different postal addresses in its instructions and footer. Confirm the correct destination with the service before posting personal documents.

For a missing pass or changed details

A changed address and a renewal can be related, but updating one detail does not prove every outstanding step is complete. Keep the confirmation you receive and ask about anything left unresolved.

  • Have the pass type and any existing enquiry reference available.
  • Check which address and contact details the service is using.
  • Write down the date and substance of the last communication, rather than relying on memory.
  • Ask what action is needed now and how the service will confirm it.
  • If a borough handles an eligibility enquiry, use that borough’s official route rather than sending the same documents to several places.

A short enquiry you can adapt

Send personal references only through the official channel. This opening question helps establish the right process; it does not claim that you already have authority to act. If written permission is requested, ask what details and signature are needed.

EXAMPLE WORDING

I am helping a family member with an existing [pass type]. The issue is [renewal / account access / changed details / missing pass]. Their latest message says [brief summary]. Please confirm the next step and which team should deal with it. What consent do you need before discussing the individual case with me?

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions families often ask

Are all Freedom Passes renewed in the same way?

Do not assume that. The official site separates older-person and disabled-person renewals, and disabled-pass enquiries may involve the borough. Follow the route for the actual pass and current communication.

Should I buy a consent letter to fix a login problem?

A letter does not reset an account. Use the current account and recovery routes first. Consent becomes a separate question if the service needs permission to discuss the cardholder’s information with you.

What if the pass is lost rather than awaiting renewal?

Use the official lost/stolen/stopped-working selector. Describe what happened accurately so the service can direct you to the appropriate process.
